Building Management Software Platform Overview

Building management software is the supervisory layer that aggregates field-controller data — setpoints, alarms, trends and schedules — into one operator interface and exposes it over an IP network for monitoring and control. ABB delivers this building automation systems software across three architectures built on the BACnet standard (ISO 16484-5): the openBOS edge kernel, the BuildingPro cloud platform, and the ASPECT supervisory range. ABB openBOS & BuildingPro Edge Software

openBOS — ABB's open Building Operating System — is a hardware-agnostic building management software kernel (.NET Core) that runs on a Building Edge device on-premises. It applies an information model to raw field data, qualifying every reading as an asset, space, device, system or process, then serves that standardised model through a local web server, a REST API, and a Driver Development Kit for custom integrations. Southbound, openBOS speaks BACnet, Modbus, KNX and LonWorks; higher-capacity licences include the BACnet Server plus the alarms, trends and schedules engines. This is the building management system software that does the real-time work at the edge before anything reaches the cloud.

BuildingPro Vision (BPro-VISION) is the BACS graphics and visualisation tool. It connects either on-premises — directly to the BuildingPro Edge — or remotely through the BuildingPro Portal cloud service.
